It was a good news/bad news weekend for some paddlers in Washington, D.C., and Washington State. A kayaker had to be rescued via helicopter from the Potomac River about a quarter mile south of Mather Gorge. He was paddling with a partner when both began to have problems. His partner made it to shore.

On the bad-news side, four rafters flipped on Washington State's Yakima River. Two made it to shore, one was rescued, and the other's body was recovered.
